One of Malaysia's biggest celebration is Hari Raya Aidilfitri. Actually in direct translation, it means Festive/Joyous Day. It's celebrated by the Muslim community. A month before the celebrations, muslims would go thru a fasting season, which is called the Ramadan.
Ramadan lasts 29 or 30 days. It is the Islamic month of fasting, in which participating Muslims refrain from eating and drinking during daylight hours and is intended to teach Muslims about patience, spirituality, humility and submissiveness to God. -http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ramadan-
The Muslims would open fast at weee hours of the morning with their first meal. Then fast thru the day without water & food. They will then end the fast around 7pm-ish. In our corporate environment, they are permitted to leave work early, since they do not head out for lunch. Actually, this means the daily after-work jam starts earlier =p But, if you are patient enough to wait till 7pm, it's smooth flow all the way. Seriously, nearly 60% of the population are settled at home at that hour. The drive to my dance class at 730pm is like Wow! I guess there's a good & down side to things.
During the Ramadan month, food stalls are setup with local delicacies. Stalls are usually located near mosque & starts from around 4pm till 7pm. Many ppl of all races, Malay, Indian, Chinese would purchase their meals here for dinner. Especially the Muslims, who will Buka Puasa or Open Fast with their families at home after a day of fasting.
My purchase of the day was a Beef Murtabak, Roti Jala & a Assam Boi cool drink.
Yuummmyyyy!!!
