2012 08Aug19 - Adelaide Half Marathon

Races in schedule after KS's arrival in Adelaide.
Adelaide Half Marathon, City to Bay then the Murray Man Triathlon (half IM distance)
Being a lazy runner, I've always been kiasu only when there's an upcoming event.
That's the only way to make me train otherwise my bum will stay on the chair the whole day (except when I need to attend pole class, no one can tear me away from my pole).
Still no car yet, so we had to count on public transportation.
Waiting for the tram at 5.30am in the cold....bbrrrrr
Finishing line banner still in the midst of setup upon arrival
After dropping off our bags at the luggage tent, we made our way to the starting line.
It was cool but not that cold. I'm in my long sleeves and these experience runners are in sleeveless jerseys.
The route is around the parks in North Adelaide. But in truth, I just followed everyone.
Started with slight incline then flat around the park, passing the Zoo and the Botanical Garden.
KS by the River Torrens
Myself running past the River Torrens
Ignore the time above, that's the Full Marathon star
KS Finishing
Myself along with everyone else...grrr
I had a good feeling run...i did a negative split which is pretty rare.
On the 2nd half of the run, I started running past ppl who went past me initially.
Alot of people : runners and supporters
hmm..our luggage tent was not man....but its all about trust i guess
sniff sniff...KS said my cheeks grew rounder..sniff sniff...
Personal best with my time...21.20km for 2hrs with my Brookes Pure shoes
my usual time would be 2hrs 10mins...Yeepee!!

2012 08Aug03 - AIB 1st quarterly dinner

How quickly I've joined the company, I was selected as part of the team to organise our 1st Financial Year quarterly dinner. Being new in the state/country, it was difficult for me to suggest as I haven't even full explored the state of South Australia yet.

After a few days of brainstorming, we decided to Host a Murder. I've always loved to play Cluedo. So this means dressing up. We source for a host in Adelaide, that way we don't need to "work" that night.
Being the creative me, I came out with an invitation card for a 20s Murder Mystery Party.

20s theme is all flapper dresses. Bought a black dress from the nearest Salvos for $6. Salvos sells 2nd hand items such as clothes, shoes, furniture etc.

Bought cloth & feathers from Lincraft for my headband.
Each of us were emailed our character sheets for the night. With a gangster's theme, we were split into Mobs, going against each other. I was Connie Decorum, and I run Connie's Night Club as a front person for the mayor. Connie's is one of the sleaziest bars in the city and is the centre of prostitution and gambling rackets. Does that mean I have to dress sleezy?
Was only able to confirm on a venue 3days before the event due to budget constrain. Thankfully just 2mins walk away from the office. Really was trying to avoid catering in the office boardroom.
Far left is my manager, Olga from Russia. Middle : Oditha from Philipines and Julia from Poland.
How international we are!!!
Didn't take pictures of food coz camera was pretty sucky in the dark restaurant.

Then we had to sing our Mob theme song

Photo with Heidi...err..malay dad, chinese mom, japanese godfather. Been in Australia since 8yrs
Still having trouble with my hair...no $$$ to style yet...sniff sniff..

2012 June - What is the right mattress for me?

When I first got into the country (in either states Melbourne, Brisbane and now Adelaide), I never once bought a new bed. You could pretty much get a good queen/double bed with frame for only $100 or less.
But as there are now 2 person, it feels a little cramp. KS & my previous arrange was always 2xsingle bed that way we would have our own individual space (plus I roll alot).
We decided to get our own new single mattress. So off to Mile End Homemaker Centre, where you can find all different stores of home furniture for your needs. We went from one store to another to compare prices and beds.
How much support do you want / need?
In the end, we picked the Noah Firm
My future bed, bed frame with TV holder
Forty Winks
Now for a good night sleep!!

2012 April - How to pick a mobile phone plan?

Previously getting a smart phone was always difficult coz you have to do the comparison on what type of phone you want and who is offering the better plan.
Actually it's the same in any country. I had never thought of getting any plans coz I dislike tying myself down with a plan of any kind.
But thinking in a long term, it was definitely cheaper getting a plan. You don't have to a specific brand just to register. Places like TeleChoice are "vendors" for several service providers that can give you the relevant advise on what you are looking for.
Typically me, I did a comparison table for the specific phones that KS & I considered and compare it with the different service providers. In the end, we went for Vodafone was they were offering a 2GB data plan for the phone.
My Galaxy SII. Didn't feel the necessity of getting an expensive phone since I had previously used a iPhone4.
KS's very first smart phone, HTC One
