Aug29 - Shopping in KL

It's usually not easy dragging KS to KL for shopping. But he was the one who suggested heading to Uniqlo, Fahrenheit to shop. Since it was a day before Hari Raya public holiday, may would have taken leave this day (like me), for fun. Keke
Support South Korean group Big Bang.
It was on sale, only going for RM24.90. The cotton material is really soft.
Just too bad only Large size available. That's where my trusty sewing machine gonna come in.
Hitting the Autumn season

Big question. How do the celebrities walk in 4inch heels?
KS said I looked like i was waddling like a duck when I tried to catwalk in it.
My calves were totally stretched up. Phew!!!

Aug20 - Bro Siong's turn with the Guitar

Back to Fatty & Skinny Music Studio, but this time it was my youngest bro's turn. Since we are both sharing my spur-of-the-moment guitar purchase, I thought that he should try out a lesson too. I bought 2 vouchers for this music lesson, one for classical guitar & the other for drums. Then I thought that my bro would get more out of it.

My bro was a faster learner compared to me. He had already learnt a few chords before class so it was a breeze for him. Heck, he can even play Yonghwa and Seohyun We-Got-Married (korean series) - Banmal song (intro only). Click here to see the youtube video.
Bro jamming with Farouk on the electric guitar

Did you know that Bruno Mars - Marry You can be played with only 3 chords??!!
This really makes guitar playing really easy. Except for the strumming of course
Bro becoming emo with the guitar....I luv uuuuu
Cheh, can i take this home ah?

Anyway, this is a recording of my bro on the electric guitar with Farouk on the drums
I hope he no coconut tree like me & go out buy electric guitar the next day =p

Aug11 - The Coconut has swayed to the Guitar

Let's see....just last weekend, I attended a Guitar lesson at Fatty & Skinny Music Studio. And me, being musically incline, started surfing on guitars. I've always thought guitars were expensive, but to my amaze, the price was pretty reasonable.
Saw this advertisement, a basic acoustic guitar for only RM110. Inteeereesstttiinngg. I corresponded with the seller and was told his shop was located at Bandar Sri Permaisuri, Cheras.
After work, I took the LRT & Star train towards Cheras, & found the First Note Music School. Too bad the guy whom I spoke to wasn't there. And the sales lady wasn't a Guitar person. So not much help there.
Different colours of acoustic guitar; Natural, Blue, Red and Brown Sunburst. The only guitar with plug-in (to speakers) was only in Black. Anyway, I was sharing the guitar with my youngest bro, so blue it was. Guitar was at RM110, comes with a free bag. Bought myself a pick & a chords booklet.
Here's a look at my new toy. Was hoping to be able to play at least a full song by end of the year. Depending on how much time i have to practice. Went researching on a few music schools for classes. Rates are about RM140 per month. Once a week/month @ 1/2hr per session. That's abit steep.

Aug9 - Buka Puasa Foodies

One of Malaysia's biggest celebration is Hari Raya Aidilfitri. Actually in direct translation, it means Festive/Joyous Day. It's celebrated by the Muslim community. A month before the celebrations, muslims would go thru a fasting season, which is called the Ramadan.

Ramadan lasts 29 or 30 days. It is the Islamic month of fasting, in which participating Muslims refrain from eating and drinking during daylight hours and is intended to teach Muslims about patience, spirituality, humility and submissiveness to God. -http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ramadan-

The Muslims would open fast at weee hours of the morning with their first meal. Then fast thru the day without water & food. They will then end the fast around 7pm-ish. In our corporate environment, they are permitted to leave work early, since they do not head out for lunch. Actually, this means the daily after-work jam starts earlier =p But, if you are patient enough to wait till 7pm, it's smooth flow all the way. Seriously, nearly 60% of the population are settled at home at that hour. The drive to my dance class at 730pm is like Wow! I guess there's a good & down side to things.
During the Ramadan month, food stalls are setup with local delicacies. Stalls are usually located near mosque & starts from around 4pm till 7pm.
Many ppl of all races, Malay, Indian, Chinese would purchase their meals here for dinner. Especially the Muslims, who will Buka Puasa or Open Fast with their families at home after a day of fasting.
My purchase of the day was a Beef Murtabak, Roti Jala & a Assam Boi cool drink.
Yuummmyyyy!!!

Aug6 - Guitar Lesson w Fatty & Skinny Music

Scorpios are artists. Ok, even if you are working in a mundane job, I'm sure u have an artistic hobby at least. Even gardening is art. U think planning where to plant your lilies is easy??!!

As a typical chinese (in my family), when I was growing up, I had to learn music eg. piano, dance eg. ballet & swimming (which i believe is important).

Piano : got until Grade 7 then I stopped. Got bored of classical.
Ballet : i think I stopped at Form 3 coz took a month break for my exams. After my return, I had difficulty doing a double pirouette. (A french word for the Ballet reference, " to whirl about.")
Swimming : the best skilled learn.

Then I took up pole dancing for my dance. But had yet to pick up another musical instrument, until I saw a deal "[83% Off] Learn to play a Full Song on Guitar or Drums in 1 hour for RM60 instead of RM350"

I really really hate it when they place price difference like that. Automatically ur brain is thinking "WOW!! Save so much!!" but never considering how much you have to pay final amount.

Anyway, Fatty & Skinny Music school is located at SS2 but don't be fooled by the address. I rounded SS2 till I found out it's located on the other side. Check out the map below.

The shop is very obvious from outside. It has a bright red signboard. And inside, it's all red as well with guitars hanging on the walls. The place is own by John but as he was outstation, Farouk was my instructor of the hour.
The music room is somewhat soundproof with majority of the major instruments in it. If you're castophobic, this might not be the right room for you. But if the room has mirrors, does that help?? I read that it makes the room seems bigger. Oh well....
Farouk mentioned that he's teaching method makes it easier for a beginner, hence the 1 Full Song in 1hr. I was thought the simplier way of reading the chords on the strings then 4 chords. Strum it in a beat of 4/4. And I was playing Zombie by Cranberries (Chorus). Inteerresstttinnnggg!!! Farouk accommpanied me with the drums.
Next up was a jazzier version of Alicia Keys - If I Don't Have You. Using the Electric Guitar. The strings is softer & skinnier than a Acoustic Guitar. My poor fingertips. This song is a bit more difficult coz I had to focus on the beat on my right hand (rather than the basic strumming) as well as the transition on my left. Phew!!!

"At the end of the class, students receive online resources to continue their music study and enjoy a 25% discount on music lessons for one month from Fatty and Skinny Music". That's what the deal states.

I'm actually considering on a little surprise for my Company Dinner next year. Let's see if it falls thru. =p
