Apr24 - Tribute Ride for PK Yeoh

Sporting is actually a pretty big world. There are so many types of sports out there such as badminton, tennis, cycling, running etc. If we pick just one sport, then it narrows down & becomes a small world. You might not know, the cycling "kaki" on your Tuesday night's ride actually just lives right behind your house.

But when news of a fella cyclist got into an accident & died, that would definitely make take heed. Mr PK Yeoh. I don't believe I know him at all. Maybe an acquittance during a cycling event. KS said he had met him before at Bike Pro.

How did it happen? What I hear, it was one of those weekend morning rides. He was late in joining the group start. So he made along his own heading towards MEX Highway. Suddenly a car came from him & hit him. I heard it was quite a gruesome hit. He had died on the spot. The driver (car) said he did not see the cyclist, but in our sports, No Helmet No ride. And tailights is compulsory for early morning & night rides. As an experience rider, I'm pretty sure PK knows this. But it is believed that the driver was sleepy as it was really early in the morning. U know us riders, start early to avoid the hot sun.

On the 24 April, PCC (Pedalholics Cycling Club) had organised a tribute ride for PK Yeoh. We gathered at a rest stop along MEX highway. Spotted a few familiar faces but many strangers. Not only road riders, but also MTB & family members as well.

Yes, even though this was a tribute ride for the dead, but is it what that brings us together.

Photographer, Janice & Jamie decided to capture the scene rather than ride. Hence all the great pics. Also courtesy from BaikBike

Flowers were brought along for the tribute as we'll be riding towards the scene of the accident.

Mr Boon Foo, owner of the infamous bike shop where-everyone-knows-your-name, Bike Pro, even join the tribute.

As this was not a race or a normal every weekend ride, no one gets left behind. First gathering point was at the Tol before we make a U-Turn heading back towards Bukit Jalil side.

In life, everything has it ups and downs. Same goes with the road we cycle on. U work hard getting thru a hill, pushing & grinding your teeth, then enjoy the free flow of downhill on top of that hill.
As the ride wasn't the conventional ride, it started later than usual plus include the gathering time, the sun was shinning down on us.
At the scene, we could still see the skied marks made by the car. We were provided with flower petals then a moment of silence to pay our respects. Death is always a sad moment even though I try to cheer myself from it.
What a year. With my late boss, my uncle and now PK's early departure. God (no matter what religion) is just impatient to see his child. Just think that they have went to a better place. Just remember them in our hearts and mind. And they are with us in spirit.

Jan16 - Le Tua 100km

I had doubt riding the Le Tua 100km ride as it's a day after my company event plus the name Le Tua means everyone is going to race this, leaving me a puff a smoke farrr behind.

Anyway, trying to convince myself, this is not a race. KOM (King of the Mountain) trail is just for fun (brainwashed by someone). IR (Independent Racers) convoyed from Subang to Bukit Jelutong (starting area).

Starting line
Not a race but there's prize for the fastest male & female *ignore ignore ignore*

Many familiar faces. Starting time was suppose to be 7.30am but delay like usual.
MC was telling about Le Tua. Community. Sports & health. Blah blah blah....quickly...sun coming up liau
Alot of riders for a charity ride. I think nearly 2000ppl. Meaning alot of money since RM50 per pax. I was all compressed with my QuadSports, BV Calf Booster & no sunburn on my arms. Weather was great.

Riders rullllleeezzz!!!

Too bad there wasn't any pic of me on aero

The route is pretty alright just that our Malaysia road condition is never quite great. It would have been better and safer riding a MTB rather than road with the amount of potholes. We went thru "kampung" areas with rolling hills.
Of course, there came to a point where I had to braved myself and conquer the KOM. And here I thought there was only one KOM *grrr*

1st KOM Summit
There was water station at the 50km mark, a self pitstop at 70km (petrol station). O.J. was kind enuff to pull me for about 25km until we came across the "dragon back"
"Dragon back" err...i think has 7 lumps...not sure

I was ok at the 1st few lumps, but when I got to the 5th lump, the gradient was too great. I wasn't shy to get off the bike & push since my knees was starting to cramp.
Last KOM
The last 2 lumps gradient was milder but longer. I found out that I am able to climb whilst sitting upright rather than getting off my seat & grind.

After that was a pleasure riding back as going home always seemed shorter.

Got placing somemore

Anyone wanna buy my Size S shirt? I had to pay for this u know

I must have my finishing photo

Total distance was about 95km in like 4.5hrs. Hey!! I know I can ride 100km in an ok time. But if you wanna torture me, yeah, add the hills.

*majority of the photos were taken off other ppl's album. Thanks to them

Mar19 - Brisbane Bike Week

Cycling to work is on the rise and every new bicycle commuter helps achieve a cleaner, healthier world and introduces new people to the fun and benefits of cycling. Bicycle Queensland wants to encourage workplace co-ordinators to introduce new people to cycling to work.

One of the best ways for workplaces that already have some cycle commuters is to entice and support others to try cycling to work. And during Bike Week is a great time to start as you can win great prizes simply by riding to work!

I guessed the main objective I was here was for the free food & trying my luck at the Lucky Draw of a new Fuji Sunfire 1.0 Hybrid bike or even the other small stuff. As I knew there were a few cyclists in my company, I pasted signage around the office the day before telling people about this gathering, No such luck. Thankfully I wasn’t the only Asian looking out of place. Just look see look see, makan then cabut.

Good thing I had my backpack with me because there were so much to take. Bottles of juice, yoghurt (yes, I very healthy), cereal and milk and located hidden at the far corner, a hotdog stand / van. Slurp slurp….

Somehow a hair salon got into the picture as well. Offering mini massages & helmet hair repair. I wanted a head massage, but got a shoulder & neck massage instead. I guess they saw me carrying a heavy bag so offered some relaxation. BUuuutttt…I’ll be carrying it again when I ride to my office mah. As for the helmet hair, it’s pretty straight forward. U wear a cycling helmet & the wind is your blow drying. Tadah!!!! Free hair styling somemore.

I’ve got 2 cute honks, blue & pink. Bells are no more in fashion. I decided to pick the weirdest colour of juices just to test if it tastes as bad as it looks. The 1st bottle was apple, banana, passionfruit, plum & lemon with all natural green botanicals. And 2nd was apple, orange, cranberry, mango, lemon with herbal infusion & honey. Well, I had only drunk the 1st and it made me thirsty. Just tasted too sweet.

This weekend, scheduled rides with distances 70km ($65), 55km, 35km, 20km & 10km ($50). All proceeds will be donated to charity. I won’t be going for any of them because I am a charity case myself. I welcome all donations :D
